George A. Goens . . .

Soft Leadership for Hard Times
George has authored three books. His latest, Soft Leadership for Hard Times, addresses the intangibles that are essential for leaders to be successful in today's chaotic world. Leaders are more like poets than engineers who must develop creative and imaginative organizations in order to reach their goals and bottom-line.

He also co-authored, Mastering School Reform, a book about the leadership necessary to bring about thoughtful change and reform in America's schools. He also co-authored, Getting the Most from Public Schools: A Parents' Guide, which provides direction to parents in developing a positive working relationship with schools to get the education they desire for their children. In addition, George contributed a chapter on leadership to Philip A. Streifer's book, Tools and Techniques for Effective Data-Driven Decision Making.

George has authored over 60 articles on leadership, reform, and education. He is currently writing two new books: Resilience and Leadership and The Promise of Living.

"Soft Leadership for Hard Times begins with an introspective inquiry into leadership and the obligation leaders have to people, purpose and relationships. As a former superintendent and professor of educational leadership, George believes that we need leaders who can connect with people to build fulfilling and productive relationships. The 'soft' aspects of leadership - trust, imagination, creativity, respect and dignity - are crucial intangibles that connect people in rewarding relationships and improve the climate for children and their ability to learn.Eschewing school leadership that consists of barking out orders and filling out forms, consultant Goens argues that approaches that do not carefully consider relationships are, in essence, doomed. He advocates an intuitive approach, built on introspective inquiry and reflection." Reference & Research Book News
