About George A. Goens

George A. Goens, Ph.D. is a prominent author, dynamic leader, recognized educator, and featured speaker. George  has worked with public and private sector organizations on leadership selection, development, and assessment. Because of his experience and perspective, he has presented seminars and workshops on leadership and educational reform for regional, state, and national organizations and for school districts across the country.
 
George served as a Wisconsin superintendent of schools for 15 years, where he was awarded the title of "Outstanding Educator". He understands the real life dynamics of leading in a complex and changing  environment, and can apply sound principles to the realities of practice. 

As superintendent George faced many leadership challenges. He provided leadership to Wisconsin educators, students and families when it was needed most, after the tragic murder of an associate principal.

George is senior partner with Goens/Esparo, LLC  a consulting firm specializing in public and private sector leadership searches, development, evaluation, and accountability.

George has authored three books. His latest,Soft Leadership for Hard Times, addresses the intangibles necessary for leaders to be successful in building productive relationships and high achievement in today's schools.

George co-authored, Mastering School Reform, about the leadership required to bring about change in America's schools. He also co-authored, Getting the Most from Public Schools: a Parent's Guide, which help parents develop the relationships  and work with schools to get the education they desire for their children. In addition, he has written over 50 articles in journals and magazines on leadership and education.

He has presented seminars and workshops on leadership, school reform, and leading in a crisis at regional and state conferences and for organizations and school districts across the country.

In addition to speaking engagements and writing, George has designed educational programs and curriculum for schools serving urban children in Milwaukee. Each of the schools he has designed offers a unique educational program for helping urban children meet the promise of their lives. The Veritas High School has been recognized by outside agencies for consistent excellence.

George is also an associate with the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents and is responsible for leadership development for Connecticut superintendents. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, earned a Ph.D. from the University Wisconsin. He lives in Litchfield, Connecticut.
